Project Shrimp Boat Conversion, continued

Sunset in Charleston, viewed from our "back porch"

Yesterday we got down and dirty with a day of cleaning on the boat.   We actually had so much fun giving the boat a thorough wash down, we both commented it was the most fun car wash or boat wash either of us had ever participated in.  Just goes to show what good company does for even the most icky and gruelling tasks!  We climbed up to the top of the boat and started on her roof.  We gave her a good soak and scrub from top to bottom, really putting our backs into it... we are both a little achy today, but it was worth it.  We take pride in  how she looks just sitting at the dock, so we really like her to gleam for our cruises.  Also, we had company coming over that evening, one of my wonderful friends from high school and her equally kind and laid-back husband.  We sat out on the deck all evening, enjoying the crisp autumn air, letting the smell of the ocean and the spectacular views wrap us up in a blanket of contentment. With just a few cold brews and some great conversation, the night was one of the best we've had in Charleston... and we've had some doozies!  Because if there is anything that gets family and friends a visitin', it's having a boat in a sweet location.  We have some amazing friends who have visited on many occasions and we always get into some fun. And every time my family comes to play, we have a riotously good time.  Since we are moving to the Keys, I'm sure the warm weather haven will be a draw as well.  We are so looking forward to all our upcoming guests checking into Miss Betty's B & B, boat and breakfast.  Shrimp and Grits, anyone?

The whole boat and breakfast idea is something we have toyed with and tossed around a few times.  Ultimately though, we want this boat as our home; we want to decorate for ourselves, not for potential clientele.  However, making money as a charter vessel of some sort does undoubtedly tickle our fancy some days.  Maybe one day we will be ready for the Betty Boat and Breakfast extravaganza, from West Palm Beach to the Bahamas in style, or some such destinations. As lovely as the  BB&B  sounds, most likely those tours will only be for a select few, like our friends and family, free of charge of course (I think I just heard my brother exclaim in relief from two states away).

It's all yet to be determined, hell we haven't even picked out our floors, much less considered living accommodations for the upper crusties who may or may not want a private, unique bed and breakfast experience on the water. No need to worry about hypothetical guests, as of yet.  Whatever we decide in regards to the shrimp boat conversion project, one thing is a definite: Together we make each and every step a fun-filled furthering of this dream.  We will laugh through all the growing pains, appreciate the uniqueness of what we are doing, and most importantly, appreciate that we have someone to share the experience with who also enjoys this whole crazy, boating lifestyle thing. Over and out.
